Top Professional Golfers With The Highest Social Interactions Among Fans
March sees the world of golf’s attention switch to some of the largest tournaments of the year to date (Players Championship, World Matchplay, and Arnold Palmer Invitational) with each event attracting some of the best fields of the year outside of the majors. Thanks to a win at the Players Championship, Rory McIlroy saw his ranking climb three places to third and the top 2 spots were held by two of the games biggest characters, Ian Poulter and Rickie Fowler, 1 and 2 respectively, the 2.8 million people who follow Ian Poulter are just as likely to see a post of a sports car as they are golf shots.
Ian Poulter Racks Up Engagements
Ian Poulter who is affectionately known as the postman because he always delivers under the largest pressure moments such as the Ryder Cup leads the way with nearly 300K engagements for the month of March despite not winning a tournament since 2012.
Poulter does, however, give his followers a unique insight into his life on and off the course which helps to drive engagements and a growing fanbase this post on IG generated 18,329 likes and helped put into context that golf is just a game and family means more to a player like Poulter.
Rory McIlroy Uses Players Win to Jump Up Rankings
Rory McIlroy jumped up three spots to third place in the rankings after a month where he won and seemingly had a chance to win every time he stepped on the golf course. Because of his performance during the Players Championship, McIlroy’s social media followers increased by 9.1K to reach a total of 4.4M across his social channels. His 205.4K total interactions were accumulated from his 64 total posts in March.
A busy April to come
April 11th – 14th sees the start of golf’s major season with Augusta, GA becoming the focal point of the golfing world for the year’s first major, The Masters hosted by Augusta National. All of the players ranked in the Hookit top 10 are competing at The Masters and with the colorful backdrops and dramatic golf in store, each player has great potential to not only don the famous ‘green jacket’ but also shoot up the Hookit rankings when we review again in April.

March is the real start of the golfing season with the first global events taking place. This saw some of the better players in the world such as Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler take hold of the Top 3 rankings whilst continuing to grow their followers and interaction levels. With April now in swing, the golfing world shifts its focus to Augusta National for The Masters where whomever wins will see a significant spike in both their bank balance and Hookit Rankings.
