In January 2011, I started a 5k training program just for the sake of fitness. In April of 2011 I signed up for my first triathlon, "The Grape Stomp Sprint Triathlon" as a way to test my fitness. I fell in love with the multi-sport lifestyle during that race. In the proceeding 6 months I competed in 11 more races, and managed to make the podium (1st through 3rd) in all but the USAT Age Group Nationals, where I placed 4th in the Clydesdale division. It was an amazing introductory year for me and I look forward to many more years of racing and improvement.
The highlight of 2011 for me was definitely USAT Age Group Nationals. While I feel that I have had better races where I performed closer to my potential, the opportunity to race at nationals was epic. I never expected to qualify for nationals when I entered triathlon, so when it happened I was elated. The experience was something I will never forget and I look forward to going back.
