As a 24-year-old AMA professional motorcycle hillclimber, I take my sport very seriously. I work hard to be the best I can be. I have national titles in amateur and professional hillclimbing. At this level of racing, my ambition requires additional support. The purpose of my letter is to convey my riding ability, dedication, and interest in acquiring your company as a sponsor. I believe you’ll find me to be a candidate worthy of sponsorship.
I began my professional career midway through the 2010 hillclimb season, replacing an injured rider on Dr. Bob’s factory-backed Yamaha pro hillclimb team. I stood on the podium five out of five times, with three 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes. AMA took note and I received the 2010 AMA Pro Hillclimb Rookie of the Year in the Unlimited Class. Dr. Bob’s team quickly made a commitment to me and built a new nitro burning Yamaha R1 for me to ride in the 2011 AMA Pro Hillclimb Championship series. I began 2011 strong on the R1, winning the opening round. At season’s end, I became the new 2011 AMA Pro Hillclimb Champion in the Unlimited class with six podium finishes, four in 1st place, each giving me the fastest time of the day.
The 2012 season started out right where 2011 left off, winning the opening round. Round 7 of the nine round series took me to Pennsylvania just three days out from a dislocated shoulder suffered during practice. With the hope that the shoulder could withstand the race, I gave it all I had, but the shoulder gave up too soon, dislocating again when I landed off the last jump. Keeping my never-give-up attitude, I rehabbed my shoulder for the two weeks I had before Round 8. I came out and won the event in a must win situation, locking in second place, 8 points out of first. In Round 9, the last race, my first ride put me in second place. But a broken chain during my second ride allowed a new series leader to advance, ending my season with a second place finish, two points out of first place in the 2012 championship. Having the 2012 championship slip through my fingers by two points quickly formed my goals for 2013. I am very confident that I can regain my title. I have the winter to rehab my shoulder to 100% and to continue working out to attain my goal for 2013. When I’m not competing, I’m pounding out laps on the motocross track or hitting the gym to improve strength and endurance.
In 2012, I added promotion as another dimension of my professional career. I’m proud to give back to those who’ve made my career and success possible. Fans visit my fan page and request autographed posters from the pits. Providing both gives me the opportunity to spotlight the sponsors who support me with the best products in the industry, and promote the sport of motorcycle hillclimbing.
I began riding dirt bikes at the age of four and started racing at the age of nine. It’s my life. I’m happiest when I throw a leg over a dirt bike. I’ve earned respect as a competitor due to my hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship on and off the track. I possess a winner’s edge. This is why I’m asking you and your company for your sponsorship and support. I’m able to represent your company in a manner worthy of recognition as I continue my professional hillclimbing career.
Please consider this letter a request for sponsorship. I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
Jay Sallstrom
