Awesome! Thats the same thing I would have done, didn't think about bells but seems logical. Another thing to try from a distance at first during ground work send him between you and your full suit on a armor stand then close the gap till he WALKS SLOWLY between you and the armor and you'll gain some trust that way too not that you don't have it already;) that's the way I broke my horse to the saddle I set it on the ground lunged him in circles to he felt relaxed to walk up and sniff the saddle ...
