More BIO » my name is Mike Giese and i race the AMA Motocross Series in the 450 class. i ride a 2010 YZ450f and am looking for sponsorship support for the 2012 outdoor national season. i plan on racing all 12 rounds and making top 20 at the races and scoring a national number for the 2013 season. The 2011 season was my best season to date. In the months prior to the National Season, I hired Derek Anderson (top 15 AMA National rider, national number 64) to help me with my riding. In doing so, my lap times dropped upwards to three seconds a lap and drastically changed the way I rode. I headed to the opening round of the 2011 AMA Motocross National Series at Hangtown MX Park confident and ready to do battle. At hangtown I was plagued with mistakes and arm pump with resulted in a 41st overall finish and missed it by .1 of a second. After this round I was frustrated and came the Thunder Valley with something to prove.
I Moved up to the 450 class for this event. At thunder Valley I set the fastest lap in my practice by a full second and that time was only 5 seconds off of Ryan Dungey’s lap time in the next practice. I was sitting 20th overall in front of multiple high-level factory riders and was the fastest racer out of the Colorado Competitors. After both qualifiers were said and done I qualified 23rd overall with my lap time only 7 seconds behind the leader’s (Chad Reed)
In the first moto, I had a bad start but passed my way up to 23rd and was closing in on 22nd but got tired with five minutes to go in the race and faded back to 32nd in the moto. The second moto I was trying to break into the top twenty and score points. I was in 21st and catching 20th until with 3 laps to go I injured my left ankle in a rut and was forced to pull off due to injury. That whole weekend was a highlight of my career and the good results was great for my sponsors and it got my name out there.
October 7th 2011 was the Vurb Classic motocross race at Thunder Valley. There were heavy hitters there such as Cole Martinez, Todd Bannister and Blake Lilly. I won every race that I didn’t crash in and was clearly the fastest rider on the track. At the end of the day I won 250 pro with a 3-1 and got second overall in 450 pro with a 3-1. I was awarded with a Vurb Moto Performance Award by the host, which is an award to the rider that they saw had the most speed and did the best.
Throughout this past year, I have been featured in many videos on Vurbmoto.com and all over other big name motocross websites. This is good for my sponsors and gets my name along with yours out to the world.
