Me waiting to line up at RedbudNot Letting my Disability Hold Me Back
Some Personal Information About Me:
I’m 22 years old and I am a T-5 paraplegic which was a result of a bad crash in august 2006. I love to ride, and race atvs that’s all I pretty much think about. I have Yamaha YFZ 450 that is fully adapted for me to ride. I ride 2-3/3-5 times a week for about an hour and a half to 2 hours each time on my practice track mostly. I also play wheelchair basketball and race wheelchairs. I work out at the gym lifting weights twice week. I also moderate a local motocross site. I am a gradute of the Therapeutic Recreation Course at the Nova Sctoia Communtiy College and currently looking for work. I'm the first paraplegic to race motocross in Canada, so I will be opening new doors for myself and other people with physical disabilities. I attend quite a few races to cheer on my friends have plenty of sponsor stickers on my chair. I will be racing county fairs, and select NEATV MX and AMA ATV Motocross national races. I am very motivated and willing to put in the extra effort when I ride and race. I keep my quad very maintained and clean and have plenty of sponsor stickers on my quad, truck, tool box and wheelchair.
Why do you compete?
The rush I get when the gate drops when I hit a big jump, nothing sounds like a high revving motor. Banging bars rubbing tires and just out there with my friends and seeing how hard I can push myself. Its the most fun thing to do.
How's Life Treating You?
Pretty good my nutrition programs is going well. Training went very well this week I can see a big difference in my strength and cardio versus almost 2 months ago. Working hard this week and hope to have my shocks back from rebuild should have my cylinder in a week or so.
Do you like to travel? What's your best (clean) road trip story?
Love travelling. Best clean road trip story would have to be my way to be driving to Unadilla last June from getting decked almost at customs until they seen my wheelchair, to being asked how fast does she go? (my quad) to some of the radio stations and seeing how funny they were especially for 10am my time haha.
Why do you like this sport?
Well Its hard to explain to me nothings like going out on a track and just going fast and hitting big jumps all the things that bug me seem to go away for the amount of time I am on a quad. It’s my stress relief; it’s brought me a lot of friends and a lot of self confidence in myself.

What are your main goals for the 2010 season?
I plan on racing 3 AMA ATV Nationals including Unadilla and hope to place top 5 in a C class.
I plan on racing 3 NEATV races and hope to place top 5 or better in a C class
What other sports are you gonna be competeing in?
I am wheelchair track andfied athlete in the 100m and 200m distances and looking to get my deveopmetal carding in the summer of 2010. I will be playing wheelchair basketball this winter for the Halifax heat and I currently hit the gym 2-3 times a week.
I am currently working on improving my overall strength to improve my power for pushing and for controlling my ATV.
What is keeping you motivated to ride and race atvs after getting seriously hurt?
#1 Ricky James every time I see his video on transworldmx.com it motivates me to wanna push it. My friends,my family, the fact I have never won a race, I know I got lots of races left in me, to proove that I can still go out and do it. Racing quads is what I love doing. I am a racer not a spectator.
Music what pumps you up before you get on a quad?
Metallica, Motley Crue, Slayer, Pennywise, Motorhead, Motleycrue, Pantera,Rob Zombie, All That Remains, Disturbed, Megadeth,Egypt Central,Stone Sour, Damage Plan Ignite, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach,Kasper from the K, Godsmack, AC/DC, some country,Syfin anything with a good beat or fast paced. Not a fan of techno and rap except when lifting weights.
What was the main highlight of the 2009 atv racing season for you?
Racing the Unadilla ATV motocross national with finishes of 9th and 11th in the Open C and 4 Stroke C classes. I was pretty happy considering it was my first ride of the year.
I finished 4th overall in the Loch Lomond Motocross series in the Quad class and was 3 points out of 3rd. Considering I had a year that started late for me and some major break downs that kept me off the bike on a regular basis I was pleased. I plan on making 2010 the best year ever!
