Evo of Doom @ Pueblo Motorsports Park (PMP) w NASA June 17 2013 (roof cam, forward view) -
This is a video from a GoPro camera mounted on the roof of my car while Chris Mayfield runs a few laps around the road course at PMP in Pueblo, Colorado. I was a passenger on board, so Chris is not driving in full "time attack" mode. NASA Time Trials rules dictate that when taking a passenger, you drive at about 80%, and they monitor your lap times to ensure you're not driving to the limit compared to your previous fastest laps... that's why you hear me short-shift into 5th at the end of the front straight, and back off from WOT on the rear straight as well.
Also, at the end of this video, the metal gasket between the exhaust manifold and the hot side of the turbocharger melted and squished out of the gap, looking a bit like excess cheese coming out of a grilled cheese sandwich... all of the studs/nuts that secured this critical junction had backed off and then gotten completely loose... one of the studs/nuts had ejected and was missing entirely when we came back in. That's why Chris had to let the Porsche 911 race car go. :)
My best time this day (on Hoosier A6s) was a 1:35.973, a new NASA TT1 track record for Pueblo. Chris Mayfield was over a second faster than me in his own car (194 TT3, a red E36 M3) with a 1:34.830 (on fresh BFG R1S), also a new NASA track record, but for TT3... a class two levels below mine! That guy is an incredible driver.
