My first BMX race was when I was 8 years old. I started racing competitively when I was 15 at which time I got the #2 NPSA state plate. I began to work at Tyrone Bike Shop at age 16. While working at the bike shop, Haro Bicycles came to the Tampa Convention Center for their first time in Florida. Tyrone Bike Shop sponsored the event and Bob Haro and Ron Wilton inspired me to try freestyle. I entered this competition that day and won first place in flatland and ramp. Directly after the competition, Profile Bikes gave me a full sponsorship and I became their first ever freestyle sponsored rider. They have the poster still hanging in their shop. During my senior year, Ron Wilkerson saw me ride and talked to Bob Haro who gave me a full sponsorship so I left and went on their East Coast tour all the way from Florida to Rockville. From there, I traveled abroad as a Team Haro Factory Rider. After that I moved to CA to work at Sea World in San Diego for the "City Streets Show" for four years with Dave Nourie. I have mostly all of the old school BMX magazines where I am in several and one as a centerfold, a four page poster and a cover or two.
As of 2009, as I have still been riding my bike through the years, I decided to start racing again. In my first year back in racing, I choose to ride in the open class to challenge myself by going up against 15-25 year old experts to see how I fared. After doing many races, bypassing many sponsored younger riders, I knew I could do this!
Past - Present
1985 Sponsored racer for Tyrone Bicycles where I ended recieving the #2 NPSA state plate during my 1st year of racing.
1986 Participated in the AFA Freestyle Competition taking 1st place in both Flatland and Ramp.
1986 Was offered a co-sponsorship from Haro Bicycles at which time I competed and won almost every competition that was held in Florida.
1986 As a team Haro member I competed at AFA competitions alongside the likes of my team mates Dennis McCoy, Ron Wilkerson, Dave Nourie, Dino Deluca, Brian Blyther, Joe Johnson and more. This experience provided me with some great inspiration and top notch guys to keep my riding prime as well as made some great, life-long friends.
1987 Became a fully sponsored full time Haro Bicycles team member. This journey with Haro took me up the entire east coast and then abroad with the team.
1987 Moved to San Diego and was asked to work for Sea World to do their "City Streets" show on a permanent basis (4 years).. In between doing shows, I rode and lived with Dave Nourie, Dave Voelker and Brian Blyther.
In 1991 I got married and ended up having two beautiful daughters. Although, I wouldn't change a thing, I must say that I had to alter my riding to accomodate providing for my family. This meant, moving to Florida with my family and started working for my fathers flooring company. Needless to say, although competitions were no longer in my life, I never strayed from riding, prac
The following goals (although it says for next year), these are my goals for this year, starting now and continuing through next year and beyond:
1) To obtain the #1 Florida State USABMX Plate for 40 and over Expert!
2) To help kids at the various tracks that I go to in any way that I can. I desire to encourage them by showing them, through my past, that they can be as big in this sport as they want to be!
