My name is Lauren Hammond. Motocross is in my blood, where my determination and passion comes from. I started racing in 2001. Over the years of my amateur career, I accomplished a lot, beat my adversity but most importantly risen above my life challenges. Motocross gave me an opportunity to spend it and create a special bond with my dad who had limited time. I have learned a great amount of lessons and defined myself during my career. At the end of the day it made me a passionate determined racer. My story is worth being read, so here it is… My father started my racing career. He raced when he was young and always wanted my sister and I, to live the dream and race. He waited till the time was right, and when I was five years old, I came home to a PW50 in my drive way. I immediately was in love and knew what my passion was. We then loaded it up and went to a dirt road where I learned to ride for the first time with no training wheels. Immediately, I took off all day till I ran out of gas. Until, I had to switch with my older sister. I had the biggest fits every time till it got really bad and instantly my dad knew I was his racer. I treasured riding and you could not stop me from riding. Shortly after, we started going to tracks. My sister grew to be a girly girl with my mom and I stuck with motocross and my father. From then on, I spent most of my weekends and nights in the garage working on dirt bikes with my dad. We were truly best friends and had a very unreplacable bond. During my whole life my father was sick. He had many health issues he struggled with almost his whole life. He had kidney disease that caused many other complications. He had many surgeries and was always in and out of the hospitals. He had to go to dialysis three times a week so it was very hard on me and riding.I had to make sure everything was loaded and clean and ready to go for him so when he would get back from dialysis all he would have to do was jump in the truck. He would still take me riding because he loved it and enjoyed watching his little girl race. Yes, it was hard on me being so young and always worrying about his health and making sure everything was ready. But I would not change a thing, it just made me stronger and work for what I have. So when I was about 6 we started to race even more. We would race at Perris, Star-west, and occasionally Costa Mesa Speedway in the PW class. I always loved racing Speedway because there was a huge crowd and that I instantly took to. When I would walk out to the track with hundreds of people watching, I tried to get the crowd excited by raising my hands pumping up the crowd. They loved it and would always cheer so loud. I also had bunny ears on my helmet, the fans loved that! It was my father's and I's thing from then on I was known for bunny ears and was the only person doing it. It was my trademark! After the race I would sign a lot of autographs too, I felt like a star! As I got older I got a KTM50 and a KTM65, where I was in the full swing of racing. I raced the California Gold Cup and Golden State series traveling Southern and Northern Ca. It was my dad and I, as our team, while my sister and mom was out at the malls shopping. Then, the minute I turned 11, my dad bought me a YZ85 which was a huge step for me. I raced some local series including Perris Hot summer Nights getting 2nd overall in my class, Gold Cup and Triple Crown. Later, on my 85, I raced the Mesquite National winning the boys 85 class and podiumed 2nd in the girls' class. My father was always there throughout all of my racing and always supported me. But in 2010, when I was 13, my father passed away from a long hard battle. He had just had open heart surgery and just had too many complications. It was too hard for him. It was very hard because we had the best connection a parent could have with their kid. During that time I did not ride or race for 7 months putting my racing at a halt. It was very hard from my mother to pay the now lit
My stye of riding is very consistent, not to go over my head or out of control. When others watch me ride they see control, smooth and fast style. As well as a great charge and smart moves on my part.
