I’ve been around competitive cycling for over 30 years. I began my BMX racing career in 1977 at the age of 6. BMX was still pretty new and very new in the Austin, Tx area. In 1978 I began racing seriously travelling all over Texas and the southwest. In 1978 I finished #8 in ABA District Texas-4. In 1979 I was the state champion in his class and ABA District Texas-4 #1 and also the #1 Rider in his class. Again in 1980 I was ABA District Texas-4 #1, State Champion is his class and #1 Rider in his class. I continued racing with my uncle Scott Patterson until 1987 at the age of 16. On the verge of turning PRO I retired from BMX. In 1997 after graduating from College I moved to Colorado to be closer to my family who has moved here a few years earlier and re-discovered my love of cycling in the form of Mountain biking. It was then that I began to get interested again in competitive cycling. Some of the things I accomplished in BMX were by today’s standard not very big, but things were done a bit differently back then and by standards back then, they were a very big deal.
