More BIO » I have been involved in anything with wheels since I was young, mostly mountain biking, road bike and cyclocross. In addition to sports, I am also a dog trainer, with my dog Tugg winning the AKC Award for Canine Excellence in 2011. I have now combined the two (cycling and dogs) and have started Team Tugg. Team Tugg, so far, is a group of local riders who believe in giving back — to both people and animals. We support bicycle giveaways to children who need them, and rescue animals.

Team Tugg was born out a combination of a few things coming together at the right time — a perfect storm, if you will. My dad, an avid road cyclist in great shape, was riding in one of many rides/races he did every year — the Tour de Cypress. A few miles into the race in 2012, a blood clot caused a massive heart attack, and the doctors said he had passed away before his bike ever left the road and plowed into a barbed wire fence. In addition to being a former mountain bike rider, I am also a dog trainer and behaviorist. My dog, Tugg, won the American Kennel Club Award for Canine Excellence in December of 2011.
My wife and I had just gotten back into cycling, and decided to put it all together to form Team Tugg. Team Tugg not only will ride in dozens of rides and races but help rescue puppies and "people puppies" at the same time. We help rescue dogs in the obvious way, of rescuing them, and nursing the ones back to health who need it. We help "people puppies" with a Bikes For Kids program, with a goal of donating 25 bicycles to youth who need them this year. We mentioned the formation of Team Tugg to several cyclists and they immediately wanted to join in the cause. Now, Team Tugg has about 16 riders. Each of those 16 riders ride about 12-20 rides a year, sometimes as a group, sometimes as individuals. That's about 180-300 different times the team will be seen. Also, dozens of the almost 14,000 fans of Team Tugg on facebook have expressed an interest in purchasing Team Tugg jerseys for their own recreation riding — thus increasing exposure for our sponsors on the jersey.
In addition, being someone who competes with my dogs at performance events like agility, obedience, and disc dog, I will be wearing our Team Tugg jersey there as well, thus opening a possible whole new market segment for our sponsors. Team Tugg will promote our sponsors at all the events, by wearing team kits, and having the sponsor's logos on them, and by telling others about the products. Sponsors will also get reviews on our Team Tugg facebook page and blog, along with logo placement there as well. (the Team Tugg facebook page currently has almost 14,000 fans) We treat all sponsors as team members, and friends, and only look for relationships we think can better both of us.
