Not being a spectator til after 2005, and only riding bike for 3 yrs then, I got a roadrace license to get more skills in street riding. That meant all the world for me, since I was then going on a first-ever real road trip on a motorcycle (2 1/2 wks Denver - west coast & back, 4,368 miles) Laguna Seca races.
Then I really got amped up to be a competitor as a Novice racer - and still am.
12th place in each NGTU & NGTO at PPIR Colorado Springs in the cold-drizzle-rain 2008 out of 23+racers.
Pueblo and High Plains tracks are both awesome, and I am in mid-pack to a little back at finish most all the time.
Definitely I will be getting faster. A focus on corner speed, late braking, and full on throttle is what I look at.
