Q&A - Competition

How did you get started?

I got hooked at my first track day. I went just wanting to be able to improve my street riding and to learn more about how to corner.

List your competitive highlights:

I would have to say this entire year, was special to me. It got off to a really rocky start, with a bad wreck before the racing even started. I missed the first races due to a dislocated shoulder and surgery.

What are you planning for next season?

I could say that I'm going to go out and win every division I compete in. However, that isn't my style. I do plan on going out and doing the best I can. I know that I will show improvement over last year, but just how much I'm not willing to venture a guess at.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

Getting back on the bike 5 weeks post shoulder surgery. It hurt, like you wouldn't believe, but it was too fun to stop.

Q&A - Personal

Why do you like this sport?

I love roadracing, it gives me an extended family. All of the people I've met in this sport are willing to help out anytime you look like you need it. You don't even have to ask, they come to you with offers to help and goodwill.

What inspires you to compete?

There is a certain rush I get when I compete. I've competed in many other sports, this one is by far the most gratifying. It is all about what you can do, and entirely how much money you can spend.

Employment / Experience Summary

I get so much enjoyment out of the motorcycles, that I felt the need to give something back. So I started to Coach MSF Basic Rider Courses. It is so great to see people learning and enjoying the bikes. It is very satisfying to influence new riders, and to see them months later still riding. I love it when the remember me and tell me stories about how something I taught them has helped them out or saved them from crashing.

My Sponsors

I am a 16 year resident of northern New Mexico, I began riding motorcycles about 3.5 years ago; and I just can't get enough seat time in. I ride about 18,000 miles per year on the street. I love the sport and joy mentoring others, so it was an easy step 1 year later to begin teaching MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) classes for the State of New Mexico. I was 6 months later also recruited to teach Rider's Edge Classes for the local Harley Dealership.   I really enjoy coaching and seeing people become responsible motorcyclists.  I am also firm believer in ATGATT and make that clear to all of my students.   As I've personally road tested some of mine, and was able to walk away from it.

After attending a few track days to hone my riding skills, I started racing in August 2007. Even though I only got to run in 2 races, I was hooked.

The 2008 season got off to a really rocky start for me. I dislocated my shoulder in March practicing for the start of the season. I was out for 6 weeks after my surgery and it took another 6 months for it to almost be back to pre-accident shape. Even with the bad shoulder I had a really great season and I managed to finish the season out rather well:

SMRI
5th Novice GTU
5th Novice Endurance GTU
5th Novice 40+
6th Formula Femme
6th Novice Open

SMRI & MRA combined
6th WOW (Women of the West) Series

MRA
5th Ladies of the Rockies

For 2009 I would like to obtain and promote some sponsors. I'm looking forward to an even more successful year in 2009.
