The Monster Army Recon Tour made it’s second stop Saturday, January 26th at Mountain High Resort in Wrightwood, California. The ski and snowboard slopestyle contest brought over 25 returning entrees from Round 1 in Park City and 50 athletes from across Southern California for the second of the three stop tour.
After Mountain High it‘s Jack Herald from Tooele, UT who is at the top of the standings in the Open Men snowboard division. At only 16, he’s already been picked up by Volcom and Smith and is a top rider in the region on the brink. Ian Hamilton from Great Falls, MT followed up his second place finish in Park City with a win at Mountain High claiming the overall lead in the Open Men ski division.
The Recon Tour wraps up next month on March 2nd at Mammoth Mountain where overall champions in all divisions will be crowned. Jack and Ian are the ones to beat in the Open divisions where the stakes are highest. The overall winners in all Open divisions receive a paid Monster Army contract and $6,000 in remaining cash that’s up for grabs for winning Recon.

Saturday 1/26/13 Snowboard Results
After three solid days of rain at Mountain High the weather lightened up on Saturday allowing for the contest to get underway in sunny conditions. The Open Male division was split between Park City participants and Mountain High locals. Mike Gray, from San Dimas California, took 1st for Open Male division taking home the $500 cash purse, followed by Jack Herald from Tooele, UT in second, and Jordan Gibson from Victorville, CA in third.
Taelor “Tae-Mat” Mattingly of Sandy, UT won Open Female Division and took home $300 cash purse after throwing down huge rodeos in two of her jumps. Mike Speers, Mountain High local, won the 18+ Male division, and returning Park City athlete Cody Hyman, took home the 15-17 Male division win. Top finishers from all divisions include:

Starting the first runs with a fresh layer of snow, temperatures dipped to a balmy 30 degrees for the ski contest. With 10 competitors for Male Open division, returning Park City participant Ian Hamilton took home the $500 cash purse, along with an invitation to the finals at Mammoth Mountain. Bradley Bybee took 1st place in 15-17 Male division.
